For more than 35 years, Melwood’s Access Adventures has provided fun and relaxation through our well-planned vacations for people with disabilities.  We focus on small group, community-based vacations to offer memorable experiences to people with all abilities.

Our travel program is designed for individuals with disabilities who are 18 years old or older. Access Adventures supports individuals in a 1:4 staff to traveler ratio. Individuals needing additional assistance based on behavioral or physical needs can be accommodated for an additional fee. Access Adventures does not guarantee in-room 24-hour supervision.  Our staff is with the travelers during normal waking hours. If in-room supervision is required, it must be pre-arranged and there may be an additional cost.  All travelers need to complete a Registration form and Skills Analysis form prior to being accepted for a vacation program.

Access Adventures hires qualified, experienced and mature staff.  All staff receive extensive training and are certified in CPR and First Aid.  Certified Medication Administrators accompany all programs to oversee the dispensing of medication with a registered nurse on-call during each vacation.

Staff Travel Free

That is right!!! We are happy to offer staff from any agency who registers four or more travelers for the same vacation the opportunity to go along as a chaperone free of charge!  Call to receive more information about this great opportunity!

Melwood Recreation Center

The Melwood Recreation Center is located approximately 60 minutes south of Washington, D.C. and 90 minutes from Baltimore.  Located on 108 wooded acres in the beautiful Southern Maryland countryside, we offer nature trails, horseback riding and many other exciting activities including our fully accessible swimming pool and fishpond.
